What learning does the CWU offer?

The CWU can offer lifelong learning for all members, online learning via CWU Left Click and courses for reps and activists. We will either deliver them directly or signpost you to suitable third party courses.

What is a ULR?

A ULR is a union learning rep. Most branches have them. Their role is to help you find the right learning pathway that suits you and to support you along the way.

What is a Learning Centre?

Many branches have set up designated learning centres - either in the workplace or on branch premises. These are places with computers, desks and other resources, where we run courses and sometimes drop-in sessions. They are run by ULRs who will be able to offer you help and support.

Where can I find out what courses are available?

Look at the 'courses for activists' or 'learning for members’ pages. Check out the courses available on Left Click and Left Click Plus - or talk to your branch ULR for courses you can take in your local area.

Will I have to pay for courses?

Wherever possible we offer free courses but you will be aware that the Conservative government's policy of austerity has greatly reduced the number of courses available free of charge. Courses on Left Click are free (although some third party sites might charge fees for some of their content). Left Click Plus does levy a fee but at a significantly discounted rate - with a further 10% discount for CWU members. All activist training is free of charge.

How do I apply for a course?

For courses on Left Click or Left Click Plus you just need to create a user account. For local courses contact your ULR via your branch office.

How do I become a ULR?

Like all other branch reps, union learning reps are elected by and from the branch membership. If you wish to become a union learning rep you should contact your branch or local rep. Once elected your branch will organise your training and accreditation.
