Cooking is a life skill that helps you have a healthier lifestyle. Being able to cook well is the healthiest and cheapest way to eat. The following sites can teach us a range of preparation and cooking techniques, along with a wide variety of tasty recipes.
BBC Food
The BBC Food site has everything you need to get you cooking. Look under Techniques to find out how to prepare or cook different food types. Look under Cuisines for recipes from Britain and around the world. Look under Diets for vegetarian & vegan, gluten free, low sugar etc. You can also search by ingredients, dishes, occasions, your favourite chef or what’s in season. Click here.
WEA Cookery & Baking
The WEA organise a range of cookery and baking courses, from learning healthy cooking on a budget, to cake decorating and international foods. Courses offered are either in-person and online but might not be available at all venues or at all times. If the course you are looking for is unavailable, contact the WEA to find out when they might be running it next. Click here.
Alison.com
Alison.com offer a range of free cooking and nutrition courses (although you will probably need to pay a small fee if you want a certificate). Their online cookery courses provide the essential skills for the food industry – or if you just want to improve your cooking skills for home. Nutrition courses explore the relationship between diet, nutrition and health, and are useful for health professionals, home cooks, food scientists and farmers.
