Getting Started With Your Computer

This is the second of three introductory workbooks covering the basics of using a computer. All three workbooks are downloadable for those who have yet to develop confidence in using IT. It is envisaged that Union Learning Reps will help members work through these books and help them to gain the confidence to use the other courses on this site – such as the IT courses from GCF Global, which offer a really user-friendly next step.

In this workbook we will look at what happens when we switch the computer on. We will look at common operating systems, the basic layout of the computer; about icons, windows, folders and files. We’ll look at some basic functions, saving: copying and filing. We’ll also learn how to customise our desktop so that it suits our needs.
