TUC LGBT+ Defeating the Narratives of Division
July 4 2025The CWU’s LGBT+ delegation had a fantastic two days at the TUC LGBT+ Conference. The Conference kicked off with an informative address from CWU LGBT+ NEC Lead and TUC committee member, Maria Exall who opened the Conference as conference chair. Maria highlighted the rise in hate crimes nationally and internationally. She called on delegates to show collective solidarity and to unite against the rise in hate and right wing ideologies.
The CWU’s composite emergency motion called for support for trans and non-binary workers was the first debate and a key focus for all delegates. The motion passed unanimously.
Moria Cahill from the UTAW branch delivered passionate contributions discussing the continued attacks on trans and non binary people’s rights, Labour’s approach to LGBT+ issues and organising ace and aro workers.
Bradley Corrigan, UTAW LGBT+ branch officer and TUC LGBT+ committee member chaired the LGBT+ young workers Caucus, while Maria Exall moved the CWUs composite motion on fighting the far right, calling for unity in the LGBT+ and wider community.
The conference concluded on a high note with Maria and Bradley being re-elected onto the TUC LGBT+ committee and with the CWUs composite emergency motion being voted as the motion to be taken to TUC Congress in September. Thanks to all delegates and visitors who attended and made the CWU proud. Now for the work to begin!
