An Introduction to Health & Safety
June 12 2025A fantastic week of learning and collaboration at Glasgow College, where this brilliant group of reps successfully completed their CWU Introduction to Health & Safety Part 1. This course is aimed at new health and safety reps and covers such topics as,
- The trade union approach to health and safety
- Roles, responsibilities and functions of the health and safety rep
- Workplace health and safety
- Introduction to Health and Safety and the Law
- Problem solving skills
- Communication skills
- Risk assessments
- The accident process
- Hazard mapping
- Health and safety – the organising approach
The course had a great energy and everyone expressed a shared commitment to keeping workplaces safe for all.
“The course was great!” enthused Fiona Bolton, a Safety Rep at Fort William DO, “On completing the course, I feel more knowledgeable and confident to carry out the functions of the health and safety rep role in my workplace. The tutors were engaging, knowledgeable and got the whole group working together on appropriate tasks. Being able to meet other reps from different areas was a highlight as it allowed us to network and share our experiences. I very much enjoyed it and I am looking forward to going on to attend Part 2. I would recommend it to anyone who has taken up a health and safety rep role.”
