CWU at Merton Pride 2025

The CWU were proud to be a part of the first ever Merton Pride Day, celebrating and supporting the LGBTQ+ community in the borough. Over 1,000 people came together to in the name of tolerance, acceptance and solidarity. The CWU was among a number of local allies, charities and other supportive groups, who took part in the fair in Morden Hall Park, engaging with local people and promoting the importance of trade union solidarity. This was followed by a march to Abbey Mills, with numbers estimated to exceed 1,000.

“As a local person it was great to see Merton hosting its very first Pride festival,” said Angela Whitter, of the NEC and Croydon & Sutton Amal Branch, who was present throughout the day, “Great also to see a CWU presence with the stall in the fair area. Hopefully more trade unions will support this next year and my message to the local Branches in London is let’s all get behind this and get our Union Banners out, as it was genuinely a great day! Other Unions present included the RMT. So many of us marched through to Abbey Mills and the reception we received from passers-by was fantastic!”
