CWU BAME Networking Event

LTB171/24 which was recently issued to the Branches confirmed that the first CWU BAME Networking Event is scheduled to take place on Wednesday 19th June at CWU HQ. Registration commences from 10am.

Branch representatives from across the UK have signed up to attend in very healthy numbers and there is still time to register if you have not done so already. There are some really exciting speakers confirmed and we will also have our friends from Journey to Justice whose sessions are always wonderfully interactive!

As we write this piece, today commemorates the 7th anniversary of the tragic events of Grenfell where 72 people, predominantly from Black, Asian and Irish backgrounds, lost their lives. So it is very timely that one of our keynote speakers is the leading campaigner on Grenfell Yvette Williams MBE who is a co-founder of Justice4Grenfell. We will also be joined by our very own Tahir Ali MP who is on the campaign trail to be re-elected to Parliament representing Birmingham Hall Green. Tahir will be taking a quick time-out to Zoom and share his thoughts with you around black representation etc.

Our BAME NEC Ali Moosa is also hoping to join us and is looking forward to the prospect of engaging with one of the largest BAME audiences in person that we has happened in the CWU for a while. Important contributions from senior BAME Reps such as Michelle Bailey who sits on the T&FS will share her journey and we are also delighted to confirm that the General Secretary Dave Ward will be popping in to say hello to everyone.

We look forward to seeing you all next Wednesday – if you have not registered and wish to do so please email equality&education@cwu.org
