CWU Brings HGV Training Opportunities to Chester Mail Centre
March 25 2026CWU in North Wales and the Marches are working hard to deliver valuable learning opportunities for their members.
On Monday 23rd March, Wales and the Marches Lead ULR Ady Prins organised a highly successful HGV learning day at Chester Mail Centre. The event gave members the opportunity to experience heavy goods vehicle driving first-hand, with learners able to practise their skills using a Tenstar driving simulator.
Alongside this, Llanelli Rural Council Training attended the event to sign up members to Welsh Government-funded Class 1 and Class 2 driving apprenticeships, giving members the opportunity to develop their skills and gain highly valuable professional qualifications.
The day proved to be a great success, with a number of members enrolling onto apprenticeships and many more gaining their first experience behind the wheel through the simulator.
Ady Prins said: “Thank you to everyone who helped make the day such a success. It was fantastic to have the simulator available and to work alongside training providers to support members into new opportunities.”
Wales Project Worker Phil Cherrington added: “This was a really positive event and a great example of the impact CWU ULRs have. It was encouraging to see so many members engaging with the simulator and taking the next step by signing up to apprenticeships. This work plays a vital role in opening up life-changing learning opportunities for our members.”
