Disability Case Handlers Success!
September 24 2024
CWU Reps from the South East region converged on CWU HQ to undergo training on the Equality Act and specifically how to apply sections of the act to issues relating to less favourable treatment linked to the protected characteristic of disability.
We know that the disability strand is by far the most common strand of casework that our union reps are dealing with, hence the department developed this course to help equip our reps better in these situations. This is now the second one which has been run and the feedback from reps attending is really encouraging.
The South East Union Learning Lead Colin Fanning adds “This new course based on the Equality act is excellent, it is an essential course for any rep who represents members with disabilities, learning what sections of the act to quote and how to use it, highly recommended.”
The law can and normally is very difficult to navigate but the session broke down some of the arguments in an easy to understand way, leaving our reps empowered with a level of knowledge that will benefit the members we represent in the workplace.
