Free Poetry Course Available Now!
January 5 2021We are delighted to announce that the CWU has a free poetry course available to all members.
The course has been developed for the CWU by the critically acclaimed Poets, Prattlers & Pandemonialists. Over eight two-hour sessions, Steve Pottinger and Emma Pursehouse, take us from beginner to publishing and performing, introducing and demystifying the different terms and formats, developing our skills and confidence as we go.
“Poetry is the most democratic of artforms,” said Paul Dovey, who organises the CWU’s Union Learning Project. “All you need is a pen and a bit of paper. You can do it on the bus, you can do it in your tea break, you can do it while you’re waiting for your kids. You can do it anywhere. And I won’t entertain any of that nonsense about it not being for the likes of us either! There is a long and proud history of workers using poetry to express ourselves; our lives, our hopes and our dreams. At a time when we’re stuck at home and having to deal with all sorts of complex emotions, there has never been a better time to give it a go!”

We have also started a weekly CWU Poetry Club, at 5pm every Thursday, available to all members over Zoom.
