Greening Chester Mail Centre

CWU Wales and the Marches have launched a ‘Greening the Workplace’ project based in Chester Mail Centre.

Using a mixture of regional funds and items donated by members, the project aims to help learners develop sustainability and gardening skills while improving a neglected outside space in the mail centre. Alongside the CWU the project has also gained support from plant manager Sailish Maisuria and fitness centre manager Zoe Boden.

The project will run multiple learning sessions over the next year and will focus on topics such as using reclaimed materials to build planters; refreshing tired benches; and choosing the right plants for the environment. The project has already begun work renovating the memorial to beloved former CWU rep Norrie Summers.

CWU Wales project worker Phil Cherrington said: ‘It’s great to take part in worker-led action to make Chester mail centre a greener and more sustainable place to work. I’m looking forward to working with others to learn new skills and to seeing the amazing impact we will have on this space’.
