International Women’s Day Networking Event

Over 70 CWU women from around the UK descended on Liverpool for this year’s networking event which coincided with International Women’s Day. Numbers were up 40% on the previous year and one of the most satisfying angles was the number of new women coming through and attending a CWU event for the first time.

The event saw some incredibly powerful testimonies from women on various issues including domestic violence, sexual harassment and women’s lives in society and the world of work.

Guest speakers included Karen Kendrick from the Mary MacArthur Trust, Barbara Plant GMB National President and the leader from Oldham Council Arooj Shah was joined by her fellow councillors Elaine Smith and Holly Harrison. The event was Chaired by our NEC Lead for Women Jean Sharrocks.

Kate Hudson, Head of Equality, Education & Development added, “there was a great buzz around the room and it was clear to see that these safe spaces give our CWU sisters the confidence to share their powerful stories – we know that women coming together pushes women forward and builds confidence and we know that for some of the women attending for the first time this could be the start of a very exciting journey for them in the CWU.”
