Learning At Work Week – Day 6: Levellers Day

On 17th May 1649, three leaders of the Leveller movement were executed in Burford on the orders of Oliver Cromwell. Every year, on the weekend nearest the anniversary, the Levellers are remembered at Burford.

This year, as part of Learning At Work Week, we have collected a number of resources to explain the Levellers and their fight for democracy and equality.

This video from Royal Holloway University of London gives a brief overview.

You can access the full playlist here.

Many of the Levellers Day lectures are available oon YouTube but we have linked to this day of “Radical Edutainment,” in which poet and musician, Attila the Stockbroker, and author of The Leveller Revolution, John Rees, celebrate the Levellers, Diggers and Ranters in discussion, poetry and song.

The CWU has a network of Union Learning Reps available to support you on your learning journey. Contact your branch for more details. If your branch doesn’t have one, why not consider applying to be one yourself?
