Mental Health Training in Leeds
February 24 2026
Leeds No 1 branch recently hosted a Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) course, and it was a real eye-opener for those who attended.
Taking a MHFA course equips reps with the skills to recognise the signs of mental‑health challenges and offer calm, appropriate support. Participants learn to challenge misconceptions, use non‑judgemental language, and understand how common mental‑health issues really are. This hopefully helps to create a workplace where people feel more comfortable speaking openly about their wellbeing and seeking help sooner.
The course also explores how everyday pressures can significantly affect mental health. Students gained a better understanding of how workload, deadlines, organisational change, and emotional labour can impact themselves and their colleagues. By learning practical strategies to manage stress and approach supportive conversations, MHFA can help build a culture where mental wellbeing is taken seriously and proactively supported.
“Steve and Jamie are excellent tutors who bring a lot of practical experience to the course,” said one student on completing the course. “I feel that after taking this course I am better placed to support members who are struggling with their mental health.”
