Persistence Pays Off for the Jubilee Learning Centre

The Jubilee Learning Centre has now opened, marking the culmination of years of perseverance by the reps of CWU South West Middlesex Branch. Throughout all the challenges, they have maintained their commitment to learning, supporting their ULRs, attending meetings and conferences, and never giving up on their ambition to set up a learning centre for the members at the Jubilee Mail Centre.

At the opening ceremony on 24th March, everyone agreed that Lead ULR Ashish Parmar, had been instrumental in finally getting the project to fruition. As Kate Hudson, CWU Head of Equality, Education & Development said, “Whenever he rings us with a problem, he usually already has a solution in mind.” This was echoed by Royal Mail Plant manager Eric Ashiagbor, who praised Ashish for the amount of work he had put into making the case for the project.

Ashish was keen to highlight the support he had received from CWU London Learning Lead, George White and Adrian Ryan and Rupinder Panesar from the Greater London Authority Learning Project, who with support from the Mayor’s Office, have been instrumental in ensuring that our members now have a wider selection of learning opportunities.

The highlight of the ceremony was the awarding of certificates to the first group of CWU members to use the centre. They were all pleased to say how much the course had helped them develop their skills and hoped to follow this up with further opportunities.

The event culminated with the ribbon cutting ceremony which marked the Jubilee Learning Centre as officially open for business. Congratulations to all concerned!
