The TUC Black Workers Conference 2025 took place recently in Congress House and the CWU fielded a strong delegation, which included a couple of first time delegates in Ahmed Kazu and Omari Blackman.
Conference witnessed a number of powerful debates including His Excellency Husan Zomlot, Palestinian Ambassador to London, who provided delegates with an update on the plight of his people and the ongoing genocide being played out in Gaza. MPs Dawn Butler and Obena Oppong-Asare also addressed delegates in a discussion which highlighted the focus on the term ‘Misgynoir’ which basically describes racialised sexual harassment.
One of the highlights of the Conference was the CWU motion on Grenfell which had over 20 speakers from different unions – the FBU seconded the motion. The lead-up to the motion saw a short film and a beautifully sung song by Margaret Greer (UNISON National Race Officer).
Ali Moosa Chaired the Conference which was a real privilege for him and the CWU. Both Ali and Mark Bastiani were successfully elected on to the Race Relations Committee.
