Union Activism Blossoms in Nottingham

CWU representatives were out in force at the 2024 New Organising Conference hosted by the Ella Baker School of Organising in the beautiful grounds of Nottingham University.

There were various themes in play with an impressive number of sessions ranging from working with communities, helping to devise your own creative campaign videos, Pro-Palestine workshop on BDS (Boycott, Divest and Sanctions) with the CWU’s own Eran Cohen giving an excellent session on the subject. There was so much more over the 3 days and with this now becoming an annual event hopefully more and more CWU Reps and grassroots members will attend the future annual gatherings.

Tracey Aldridge from the CWU Midlands No.1 Branch was attending for the first time and had this to say about her experience “The conference was an amazing opportunity to network with other activists and engage with local communities. There were plenty of seminars to attend covering a wide range of subjects and also lots of opportunities to get involved with other unions on subjects like #MeTU. Everyone was very friendly and the ‘Paul Robeson’ play by performed by the impressive Tayo Aluko the end of the evening was amazing; it was a show detailing the civil rights activist called Paul Robeson and his journey. I am looking forward to next years Conference already!

Our thanks to the Midlands Region and Mark Harper for facilitating a strong show from the region.
