Workplace Campaign Workshop – CWU Wales
Education, Health & Safety March 20 2025On 19th March 2025 CWU led a workshop at TUC Cymru’s ‘Organise Now’ event in north Wales.
Wales and the Marches Regional Secretary Mark Williams, Regional Lead Health and Safety Rep Conrad Hunt, and national Policy Assistant Jamie McGovern delivered a session on ‘How To Organise a Successful Workplace Campaign’ to reps and officers from a range of unions across Wales.
The session outlined how CWU reps in Merseyside had successfully campaigned alongside local government, Merseyside Police and Liverpool University to reduce dog attacks in Liverpool. CWU Wales and the Marches is now applying that learning by developing the ‘Wales Dog Safety Partnership’, a cross organisational way to report dangerous dogs. This initiative already has already secured support from Welsh Government and Swansea Council and is developing across the whole of Wales.
Delegates from other unions described how this project could help people in their workplaces. For example, one rep from a local Unison branch outlined how dangerous dogs affect community social workers and how a better understanding of the dangerous dogs in her area could help keep her members safe.
CWU Wales and the Marches are continuing to work with partners to develop the project. Further information about the Merseyside Dog Safety Partnership is available here, and information about the Wales Dog Safety Partnership is available here.
